"I help people who want to help themselves by teaching them how to breathe well, move well, and get stronger-which ultimately means less pain and more freedom. My goal is to give you the tools so you can take control of pain and injuries, and stop relying on being "fixed" by any health practitioner."
Marcel is a registered Physiotherapist with over 12 years experience. He has a postgraduate certificate in Western Acupuncture and is currently working on a certificate in Human Nutrition. He is one of a handful of physiotherapists in New Zealand using the Postural Restoration Institute approach to assessing and treating pain and injuries. He has found this to improve clients results and make lasting changes. He is also trained in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, which aims to identify and address the underlying causes of chronic health issues.
Marcel is available in clinic to provide an in-depth assessment of your injury, pain or general health issue.
Marcel lives in Mount Maunganui with his wife Julia (who is also a physio) and his two daughters, Flo and Mabel. He loves hanging out with his family, surfing, music and learning about health. He has a passion for getting to the underlying cause of a health or pain issue whenever possible, which is the result of overcoming his own health and pain challenges.
Marcel originally studied physiotherapy at the University of Otago, graduating in 2003, and went on to work at a physio clinic in the South Island before moving to Tauranga. While working at a physio clinic in Tauranga, he was struggling with fatigue, skin issues, chronic back pain and headaches. He found that the standard physiotherapy and medical approach was unable to help him overcome these problems, which eventually left him feeling worn out and unable to continue working. He decided to take a year off to travel the world surfing with Julia. On his return to New Zealand he returned to working in a physio clinic, while also embarking on a journey to restore his own health and wellness. He researched different lifestyle, exercise, mindfulness, and nutritional approaches, and applied these to his own life. He also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Western Acupuncture through Auckland University, and the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition certification course which taught him to use laboratory testing to get to the root cause of health issues. More recently he has studied with the Postural Restoration Institute, which has changed the way he looks at human movement and pain. He is currently furthering his nutritional knowledge by studying a Graduate Certificate in Human Nutrition through Massey University.
This journey has enabled him reach a his own health goals, and he is now excited to start his own clinic so he can help others achieve theirs.
